Goal of the Week

Let me introduce everyone to  a weekly post that will from this point on be greatly anticipated. In the Goal of the Week post you will see a goal from most likely an EPL game that either is crucial in turning the tide of the game, one that saves a close win with time running out, or a goal that is just so beautiful it literally takes your breath away.

This week you're lucky enough to see a goal that highlights all three of these criteria. It comes from this weekends derby games, which are considered the most heated and contentious games of the season for most English sides. The derby games usually pit local teams that are very close in location, if not the same city against each other. Today's goal comes from the Merseyside Derby which includes Everton vs Liverpool, who are bitter rivals. The teams stadiums are less than a mile away and both are fighting for top spots in the English Premier League. The goal comes in the waning moments of the game with Liverpool leading 1-0:

The goal tied the game for Everton and helped them escape the day with a point. In event of ties, teams still get one point instead of zero adding to the total standings. Liverpool was just moments away from leaving the game with a win and three points before the back-breaking late goal. As an avid Liverpool supporter I felt the pain of every player and fan in that stadium. It made me sick to my stomach, but I still had to appreciate the skill (and possibly luck) that went into the strike. To hit the ball on the hop, one touch, and have that perfect of a result is nothing short of miraculous. It pains me to say, but it may be the best goal of the season up to this point. If anyone can find one equal to it post below in the comment section.

  1. Good idea, Killian, of featuring highlight goals across the world to showcase the beauty of the game to new fans. Many people gripe that soccer moves too slow, limited action, limited scoring. While the latter may be true, it requires the viewer to become more involved in the game- watching runs, player movement, simple passes, etc. One example being Barcelona this week against PSG involving Neymar and Messi. Simple movements and passing that demonstrates the flow and finesse of the game.

Per your advise, I began putting money down on select Champions League matches, and made off like a bandit. I owe you. I may have to diversify my college football betting blog to include the original football. Do you see any intriguing match-ups this weekend in the EPL? Chelsea-Arsenal is always a spectacle, despite Arsenal's recent struggles, and I love that +375 next to them. I'm also loving Everton +370 vs Man United. Any thoughts on Sunderland-Stoke City? Lastly, any specific strategy on determining the over/under?
