Goal of the Week

Let me introduce everyone to  a weekly post that will from this point on be greatly anticipated. In the Goal of the Week post you will see a goal from most likely an EPL game that either is crucial in turning the tide of the game, one that saves a close win with time running out, or a goal that is just so beautiful it literally takes your breath away.

This week you're lucky enough to see a goal that highlights all three of these criteria. It comes from this weekends derby games, which are considered the most heated and contentious games of the season for most English sides. The derby games usually pit local teams that are very close in location, if not the same city against each other. Today's goal comes from the Merseyside Derby which includes Everton vs Liverpool, who are bitter rivals. The teams stadiums are less than a mile away and both are fighting for top spots in the English Premier League. The goal comes in the waning moments of the game with Liverpool leading 1-0:

The goal tied the game for Everton and helped them escape the day with a point. In event of ties, teams still get one point instead of zero adding to the total standings. Liverpool was just moments away from leaving the game with a win and three points before the back-breaking late goal. As an avid Liverpool supporter I felt the pain of every player and fan in that stadium. It made me sick to my stomach, but I still had to appreciate the skill (and possibly luck) that went into the strike. To hit the ball on the hop, one touch, and have that perfect of a result is nothing short of miraculous. It pains me to say, but it may be the best goal of the season up to this point. If anyone can find one equal to it post below in the comment section.

The masses are asking for more soccer after the beautiful game brought us an exquisite World Cup this summer. Thats were I come in. Soccer is continually growing in the US and I want to keep the all these new fans abreast of the most important and most enticing upcoming events in the futbol world.

Fortunately, now is the perfect time for all the best soccer action. English Premier League has just begun, MLS soccer is in full swing, and Champions League has started their divisional rounds. These are the primary areas I will be expounding upon most regularly, but small additions of importance will be added when necessary.

The main of emphasis of this blog is to just help my fellow Americans get interested in the most beautiful of games. I hope with my extensive soccer history (playing since I was in diapers and continue to this day) will help me bring a valued perspective to the growing American soccer consumers.

Here is just a little taste of what makes soccer so exciting:
